Question: What is the big deal about giving the gay community the right to civil marriage?
As a Christian I want to clarify that homosexual activity goes against the original intention of God when He created a helpmate for Adam. God made them male and female for His glory and purposes (see Genesis 1). The enemy hates the beautiful and holy plans of the living God, so he has attacked men and women with a spirit of lust and perversion. If one understands the need for healing the brokenhearted places in the human spirit (see Luke 4), then it is not difficult to see the attacks on a person’s gender identity. I want you to read this passage in the New Testament and settle the issue in your own heart concerning if God created some people with a tendency towards same gender sexual attraction.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation to everyone believing, both to Jew first, and to Greek;
Rom 1:17 for in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; even as it has been written, "But the just shall live by faith." Hab. 2:4
Rom 1:18 For God's wrath is revealed from Heaven on all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, holding the truth in unrighteousness,
Rom 1:19 because the thing known of God is clearly known within them, for God revealed it to them.
Rom 1:20 For the unseen things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things made, both His eternal power and Godhead, for them to be without excuse.
Rom 1:21 Because knowing God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful. But they became vain in their reasonings, and their undiscerning heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing to be wise, they became foolish
Rom 1:23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into a likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Because of this, God gave them up to impurity in the lusts of their hearts, their bodies to be dishonored among themselves,
Rom 1:25 who changed the truth of God into the lie, and worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 Because of this, God gave them up to dishonorable passions, for even their females changed the natural use to that contrary to nature.
Rom 1:27 And likewise, the males also forsaking the natural use of the female burned in their lust toward one another, males with males working out shamefulness, and receiving back within themselves the reward which was fitting for their error.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right,
Rom 1:29 having been filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, iniquity, covetousness, malice, being full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, evil habits, becoming whisperers,
Rom 1:30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, proud, braggarts, devisers of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 without discernment, covenant breakers, without natural affection,
unforgiving, unmerciful,
Rom 1:32 who knowing the righteous order of God, that those practicing such things are worthy of death, not only do them, but also approve those practicing them.
This passage in scripture reveals that those who do not desire to follow after God as their Creator, but want to determine their own concept of what God had in mind at creation, are actually given over to a spirit of lust. Their minds are darkened and reprobate. Only a true salvation conversion can open their understanding to truth and make the way for deliverance. In Rom 1:32, we find the main reason that a nation should not approve of the homosexual lifestyle (as well as the other rebellious traits mentioned in this passage). They lose their divine protection from God. A spirit of death can be released against those who approve reprobate behavior. That is one reason that when you vote, all heaven looks on to see if you are in agreement with that which causes you to walk away from divine protection.
When our humanistic beliefs, no matter how culturally accepted, are contrary to God’s Word and the heart of God, then we will pay the consequences for not being in agreement with truth. Truly, marriage is a Christian concept and God outlines in His Word not only what marriage should reveal about Him but also when the marriage can be dissolved. He does not apply the laws of governments or religious beliefs to outweigh His truth. God is right and the rest is incorrect and misguided. So truly can two people of the same sex get married? Not in the eyes of God. So actually they may receive some benefits from the government, or even some hardships due to their decision, but in the eyes of God they are not married, they are participating in sin. (Remember that fornication is sin also and many claim to be Christians but practice sin…now that would take another column to address).
I would like to encourage those in our nation that are minorities to stand against those who would compare your skin color to the perverted act of same gender sexual activity. (Some people say the being a homosexual is not a choice, just like the color of skin you were born with is not a choice.) God did create human beings with different skin colors to protect us against the sun rays where needed. He also is very practical so He created people to fit into their original environments. Whatever your skin color, you are created in the image of God which is holy. Do not let others compare something as wonderful as the color of your flesh with something so unholy as sexual perversion. Once again the foolishness of human reasoning can be seen in the logic of those who do not know or understand our great and glorious Lord.
Let’s love and pray for those who have been so hurt in their past that they have chosen what even nature reveals is too foolish to have been conceived in the heart of a very practical and creative God. We as Christians hold the answers to their freedom from bondage, but it will only be accepted in an atmosphere of unconditional love.
