We believe following Jesus is about relationship, not religious performance. We’re here to help people experience the presence of God, grow in His Word, and learn to follow the leading of Holy Spirit.
Through biblical teaching, worship, prayer, and ministry, we equip believers to walk in truth, strengthen their families, and become overcomers.
OUR STORY
From a Home Bible Study to
Beauty for Ashes began as a home Bible study in Virginia and grew into a ministry with both local and international reach. Established as a nonprofit in 1995, the ministry eventually found a permanent home in Newport News.
The heart of Beauty for Ashes was deeply shaped by founder Cyndi Foster’s own journey through devastating loss. After the death of her young daughter, God met Cyndi in her grief through the promise of Isaiah 61:1–3—the exchange of beauty for ashes and the oil of joy for mourning.
More than 30 years later, the heart remains the same: helping people encounter God, find freedom, and become overcomers, and equipping others to carry the Gospel to the nations.

At the heart of Beauty for Ashes is a love for Jesus and a desire to know Him more. We believe Christianity is more than religious practice—it is a living relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything we do is rooted in God’s Word and our desire is to be led by Holy Spirit.
